McCleery Derby - Competitive to the End!

Good morning, gents.

It’s been a few days since we’ve played the Derby, and there’s only one word to describe the results of the competition - close! As you will see below, only 1 stroke separated 1st place from 4th. One putt, made or missed, determined your team’s position on the podium.

In the end, the team that made that one more putt was Mike Mallen, John White, David Ng and Saurabh Handa. Congrats, boys - you will forever be immortalized on the Sam Purdy trophy for 2020!

Red, White & Blue - Results

Hey gang ~

As I was away this weekend, I don’t have personal stories to tell about the weekend, but I’m sure you all had some fun strategizing, and playing from different boxes. Kudos to the one gross Eagle this weekend goes to Ty Gilbertson - and it was fitting that his name was drawn at random for the Gross skins of the back-9 in the Gold flight. Congrats, Ty!

Congratulations to all the other winners, and good luck in the remaining tournaments this year! Don’t forget to sign up for the O’Keefe, McCleery Derby, and the Sweepstakes events — 3 trophy tournaments coming up back to back to back in the next few weeks!

With our savings created by our newest sponsor, Peak Golf, we were able to give some prize $$ to the tournament. I split the players into two equal flights based on handicaps, then gave $25/$15/$10 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, gross and net scores. Congrats, boys!

Club Championship!

BIG congratulations to our Club Champion, Shaun Hemingway.  In another weekend of stellar play, Shaun shot 72-75 to take the trophy for a 13th time!  I haven't counted, but I believe he is our most prolific winner in the history of the Club. Way to go, Shaun.  The next closest player was Walt Vanderrijst (76-78), seven strokes back.

Congrats to the winners of the Silver flight (Rory Matheson, 83-82) and the Bronze flight (James Ahmoye, 81-86).  Each of these guys dominated their divisions as well.  Nice playing, chaps!

A couple of notables:  Shaun Hemingway hit his tee shot to within 2 inches (from the Blue tees) on hole #3 Saturday!  A near hole-in-one!  Also, James Ahmoye hit an eagle on hole #1 on Saturday, jarring his shot with a 3-wood from over 200 yards!  That's a hole in one in my books.  Nice shots, boys!

Scroll down to the bottom of the post to see all bonus prizes for both days.

Players in RED moved down a tee box and played for net prizes only in their flights.
